As our regular visitors will know I went to Cornwall for a long week end on 10th July in search of some Bass fishing with my good friend Nigel Hodge skipper of Blue Minstrel out of Falmouth.
During the week end which produced only a few Bass I discovered that the Peter Collins Competition was to take place the following Sunday and Nigel suggested I stay a bit longer so as to participate in it. After almost a minute’s deliberation I diced that it would be a good idea, even though it meant fishing for even more days than planed.
It’s a tough job but some one has to do it and the additional trips during the week produced some great sport mostly on the wrecks and reefs in Falmouth bay.
Small tides over the first week end resulted in just a few Bass being caught the biggest around the 10lb mark. On the wrecks there was plenty of action with loads of Pollack Whiting and Conger Eels brought to the boat and the Reefs produced some big Pouting which are great fun on light gear.
Then there was the competition which at present is just a small club event which they run as an open competition for both Shore and Boat angling. It is run to NFSA rules with Porthleven SAC minimum sizes and NFSA Cornwall 100%specimen sizes in each category.
We have some film of our effort and the presentation for you to watch as usual you can chose to see a Streaming Video which is not the best quality but downloads quite quickly CLICK HERE TO VIEW or you can download the full screen video in m-peg 2 (DVD) quality CLICK HERE to download and view with your media player
